Sewing

Dressed for 30

Wow, I made it! I turned 30years old today and can’t help but reflect on all the ways God has blessed me in my life. I am truly thankful.

It’s a Sunday and interesting enough “Trust God Sunday” at my Church. So fitting, right? I do not know what the future has in store for me. If my life right now is any indication it will surely be great!

I decided to make a dress for the occasion. It’s actually the first dress I’ve ever made or worn of this type. I chose New Look6223 in view A, It has a pleated bodice with side pockets and cap sleeves. The fabric is burgundy embossed taffeta.

There were no issues sewing this dress except I damaged the invisible zipper during installation. To my horror the back of the dress opened up when I tried it on. I panicked and went out and bought a metal zipper. I just couldn’t risk having my dress burst open on its debut .

There is an upside to the invisible zipper failure. I discovered the joy of handpicked zippers. I love the look of the hand stitches, it’s easy and the hand sewn zipper makes this dress extra special for me.

I decided to use a metal zipper after I ruined the invisible zipper. I used the handpicked method to install it.

I like this style a lot. It is a great day for me. Happy 30 day!

  1. The dress looks great. Happy Birthday what a great age, not trying to be young anymore but have enough energy for new adventures.
