My niece Jadin turns 10 years old this month. My goodness. I can’t believe my little JadiBop is growing up so fast. We were looking at patterns together a few weeks ago and she talked me into making her a maxi dress with ruffles from McCalls 6736. Seriously, I didn’t require and begging. This pattern is too cute!

I chose a hot pink leopard quilting cotton for the fabric and used some leftover cupcake fabric scraps for the bodice. She is soooo tiny. I bought a size 7 girl’s pattern but ended up needing to take out 4 inches from the bodice.
Cupcake fabric to line the bodice. What else do you line a hot pink leopard dress with?I stitched her nickname on the tie end for a little fun. (I wonder how long before she’s too cool to let me call her JadiBop:-)
You don’t realize how grownup your little neice is getting until you ask her to pose for a picture and she insists that her dress would be best photogaphed on the patio couch.

I have had an fascination with handcrafted textiles since before I can remember. The most influential women in my life have been skilled at sewing and needlecrafts. This includes great grandmother Mattie and grandma Arelia who was ever encouraging and proud of her “sweet pea” as I attempted my first projects at the age of 11.
Starting with braid weaving, then progressing to sewing, then crochet I was on my way. I received a bachelors in Apparel, Textiles and Merchandising from Eastern Michigan University in 2006. Over the years I have picked up knitting, loom weaving, embroidery and finally spinning every type of fiber I can get my hands on.
The process of creating using traditional techniques has brought me much joy and fulfillment over the years and I hope to inspire others to explore our heritage skills through my sharing.
